SAVORY SCALLOPED POTATOES
6 medium, raw potatoes
3 slices while bread, buttered
Salt and ground black pepper
Onion salt
1 3/4 cups milk
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 1-quart casserole.
Peel potatoes and cut into thin slices; set aside.
Break 1 slice buttered bread into 6 pieces and drop into Blender container; cover and run on Speed 7 until bread is finely crumbed. Empty onto waxed paper. Repeat this process with remaining bread, crumbing 1 slice at a time.
Put 1/3 of the potato slices into greased casserole; sprinkle with salt, pepper and onion salt, then with 1/3 of the buttered crumbs. Repeat this process two more times, having the top layer buttered crumbs. Add milk, pouring carefully down the side.
Cover and bake 1/2 hour; uncover and bake 1/2 hour longer.
VARIATION:
CHEESED SCALLOPED POTATOES:
Cube 1/2 cup sharp Cheddar cheese. In above recipe, put 1/3 of the cubed cheese in Blender container with each slice buttered bread; cover and run on Speed 7 until bread is crumbed and cheese is grated. Complete as above.
Makes 6 servings
