Recipe(tried): Simple Sweet and Sour Sauce

Toppings - Sauces and Gravies
An easy / basic sweet & sour sauce can be made by adding equal parts of:

ketchup (57 variety)
white sugar 5% acidity
white vineger

Bring to a boil thicken slightly with cornstarch and water. Let cool slightly before adjusting the balance you want of the three components. Now you have a base . You can add blanched garninsh to the sauce such as green peppers , carrots , chestnuts, broccoli, sno peas, etc. I would have to stress the blanching technique to keep your veggies crisp and bright and fresh . Instead of adding the veggies to the sauce ahead of time because they will sit in the sauce and stew and wilt then the bright colors will fade. Good Luck.
