Recipe: Spry Date Bars

SPRY DATE BARS

1/4 cup Spry (vegetable shortening), melted and cooled
1 cup sugar
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 cups finely chopped dates
1 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup sifted flour
2 eggs, well beaten

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9x9-inch baking pan with wax paper and grease.

Sift together sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Combine dates and nuts with flour. Mix with the sifted ingredients.

Add the cool melted Spry to the beaten eggs. Add date mixture to the egg/Spry mixture. Mix thoroughly. Spread into prepared pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Makes 16 bars
