Recipe: Spry Pie Crust (2)

Desserts - Pies and Tarts
Hello,

I don't know if either of these are from the label, but maybe you'll recognize one. For anyone not familiar with Spry, it was a solid vegetable shortening (like Crisco).

Perfect Pie Crust

4 c. unsifted flour
1 tsp. sugar
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 3/4 c. Spry
1 tbsp. white vinegar
1 lg. egg
5 tbsp. ice cold water

Mix egg and vinegar in water and slowly stir with fork until you can form into balls.
Makes enough for 2 double crust.

One Crust Pie Crust

1 1/4 c. flour
1/2 c. spry
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. cold water
1 tbsp. vinegar

Mix flour, spry and salt with pastry blender until pea size. Sprinkle with water mixed with vinegar. Stir until all sticks together. Form ball and roll out on pastry cloth. Put in pie pan. Trim edges. Pierce crust with tines of fork. Bake at 425 degrees for about 12 minutes.

Happy Baking,

Betsy
