STRAWBERRY MAGIC CAKE
The strawberries on top go to the bottom and the marshmallows that are on the bottom come to the top while cake is in the oven.
1 (10 oz.) pkg. miniature marshmallows
1 (18 oz.) box yellow cake mix, prepared
1 (3 oz.) box strawberry Jello, dry
1 (16 oz.) container frozen sliced strawberries, slightly thawed
2/3 cup cold water
Cool Whip, for frosting
Sliced fresh strawberries, for garnish
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 10x13x2-inch pan with Pam.
Spread marshmallows evenly in bottom of prepared pan.
Prepare cake mix according to package directions and pour over marshmallows.
Sprinkle dry Jello over cake batter.
Drop slightly thawed strawberries by the spoonful here and there, evenly over Jello powder. Then pour 2/3 cup cold water over cake - do not stir!
Bake at 350 degrees, almost an hour or until golden brown on top and toothpick comes out clean. Let stand on wire rack 30 minutes before cutting.
Top with Cool Whip and additional strawberries.
STRAWBERRY CAKE (using fresh strawberries)
1 (8 oz) pkg miniature marshmallows
1 pkg. yellow or white cake mix
4 cups (1 quart) strawberries, sliced
1/2 cup sugar*
1 (3 oz.) pkg. strawberry Jello
Cool Whip (for topping)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Scatter marshmallows in 9x13-inch greased cake pan.
Mix cake as directed on box. Pour over marshmallows.
Mix strawberries, sugar, and dry Jello powder together then pour over cake mixture.
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until done.
Serve warm or cool topped with Cool Whip.
*Another version of this recipe doesn't use the sugar
STRAWBERRY SHORTCUT CAKE
1 cup miniature marshmallows
1 (20 oz) pkg. frozen strawberries, thawed
1 (3 oz) strawberry Jello
1 strawberry or yellow cake mix (2-layer size)
1 1/4 cups water
1/3 cup oil
3 eggs
1 small container Cool Whip, thawed (for topping)
Sliced fresh strawberries (for garnish)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
Place marshmallows in bottom of prepared pan; set aside.
Mix thawed berries and dry Jello in bowl; set aside.
Mix together cake mix, water, oil, and eggs. Pour over marshmallows.
Spoon Jello mixture evenly over top of batter.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool completely.
Invert cooled cake on platter or cake dish and frost with Cool Whip. Trim with fresh sliced strawberries. Refrigerate leftovers.
