This is the recipe that I had lost and had posted an ISO for. I fanally found it in an old box in my cupboard. It is easy and very yummy! Bread Making Hint....to change flavor of any bread you are making, change the amount of sugar in the recipe to any other sweetner (eg.) Any flavor of Jam, brown sugar, honey, maple syrup etc.. (equal amounts). You would be surprised by the taste. I have tried every sweetner I can think of and they are all yummy.
WHEAT GERM CASSEROLE BREAD
My Kretschmer Wheat Germ Booklet
1 tsp sugar
1 cup warm water
2 pkg. yeast
3 cups flour, divided use
1/2 cup milk, warmed (140 degrees f)
1 tbsp salt
2 tbsp honey
2 tbsp soft butter
1 egg
1 cup wheat germ
Dissolve sugar in warm water in large warm mixer bowl. Sprinkle yeast into water mixture. Let stand 10 minutes then stir well.
Measure flour and pour onto wax paper.
Stir warm milk, salt, honey, butter, egg, wheat germ and 1 1/2 cups flour into yeast mixture. Beat 3 minutes at medium speed with electric mixer. Add 1/2 cup flour and beat 3 minutes more. Stir in remaining flour.
Turn into a well-greased 6-cup Casserole dish. Cover with greased wax paper and let rise in warm place until no more than double in size (about 45 minutes). Watch carefully to ensure that dough does not "mushroom" over the edge of the casserole.
Bake at 375 degrees F for 35 minutes. Cover with foil is browning occurs too quickly.
Yield: 1 round loaf. Keeps 2-3 days
