Here is a recipe for Zuccarrines
5 cups sifted flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 t. anise extract
1/2 t. lemon extract
1/4 cup anise seeds
4 eggs
1/4 lb. butter
3/4 cup milk
1/2 t. salt
4 t. baking powder
Frosting
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup water
2 T. anise extract
Heat milk slightly, add butter. Let cool. Sift flour and salt and baking powder. Make a well and add beaten eggs and cooled milk and butter, anise seeds and flavoring. Blend thoroughly. Let stand 20 minutes. Lightly dust a chopping board with flour and shape mixture into long rolls about 1/2 inch in diameter. Cut rolls into 3 1/2 inches long and twist ends to resemble knots. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake for about 20 minutes at 350 degrees. Do not overbake.
Frosting:
