ISO: Applebee's Cheese Chicken Tortilla Soup - question

In this APPLEBEE'S CHEESE CHICKEN TORTILLA SOUP recipe it calls for 1 cup of cream, but never says when or how to use it. It only describes the 1/4 cup of non-fat sour cream. When and how is the 1 cup of cream used. Also is that the same as whipping cream??
