ISO: chocolate in jam?

Recently, I found two recipies for jam including chocolate. The first added the chocolate to the fruit and boiled it for 5 minutes. The second added chocolate chips to the jars before sealing and processing. Are either of these metjods safe? I would love to add choc. to my jam, but don't want to poison anyone...
