ISO: crisp chewy chocolate cookie dipped in sugar from 60's

I grew up in the 60s and so did my girlfriend. We are looking for these crisp on the outside but chewy/chocolatey cookie on the inside..dipped in regular sugar..it had crackles on the top and it was NOT dipped in confectionarey sugar like most recipes I have found. I would love to make them for her to surprise her for christmas. Her mom made them every christmas and it would bring back such good memories of her deceased mom. Thank you !!!! teri
