ISO: request James Beard's recipe for chinese chews

I have just moved to Moscow in Russia. I have a nice cookbook selection
but could not take more than a few with me. Now I find that many of
my favorite recipes are in books I did not take. I am looking for the
recipe by James Beard (published I believe in more than one of his
basic books) for Chinese Chews. It is a two layered bar cookie. I would
be very thankful if someone could help me out. It would brighten the
cold and dark winter days for my family and myself.
