I have made a "salad" that uses Cool Whip and Jello, as well as cottage cheese, crushed pineapple and/or fruit cocktail and miniature marshmallows. It doesn't call for any water at all. You just mix everything together and refrigerate it. I wonder if the dessert you remember could have simply been jello and cool whip mixed well and refrigerated??!? Or maybe it could have had some fruit juice mixed in??!? You could give it a try and see if it is even close to what you remember. I would use 2 boxes of jello, that each serve four people and an 8 oz. container of cool whip, thawed. Good luck:-)!!
