Memories of our 50th
Misc.ADVERTISEMENT
My husband and I celebrated out 50th a year ago. I have not been keeping up
with all the posts but would like to share some things we did for our big
event.
I went through our collection of photos. We had them put on video tape. We
started with each of our lives from baby photos till we were grown, married and
our children, the grandchildren and finally ending up with our 50th anniversary
photo. There was music appropriate to the particular era dubbed in the
background, starting out with "Memories" and ending with "I love you Truly".
It was fun hunting all the old songs of the 40's and 50's, but we did have a
few from the 60's, too. It really was a tear jerker. This video played all
during the reception in an area where guests could sit down and watch it.
long.
One of our daughters made a beautiful scrapbook of our lives. We had other
photos arranged on a table for the guests to enjoy. Another daughter wrote a
beautiful poem for us and had it matted and framed. She had us sit down while
she read it to us at the reception. That was another tear jerker.
Our daughter wore my wedding suit and jewelry. In that period a lot the ladies
just wore suits or dresses as that was more "practical". You could continue to
wear it after the wedding!!! My suit looked just as good and in style as if
she had just purchased it today.
I had saved (by drying) my wedding corsage which was gardenias and red
rosebuds. I took it to the florist and they made an identical one for the 50th
annivery. The price was a little different. I paid 3.50 for it in 1948 and
the one in 1998 cost 23.00!!!
We gave little laminated bookmarks with a memorable poem to each guest. Each
bookmark had a gold cord tied on at the top.
We had a 4-tiered wedding cake made by a dear friend. The other food was just
the usual meat and cheese trays, fruit and veggie trays, potato salad and other
finger foods. The food was served on gold trays. It was a beautiful table.
