re: McCall's Fruitcakes (but not from green cover cookbook)

Misc.
Hi Linda,

I hope someone will have the exact recipe you're looking for. While we're waiting, I couldn't find a fruitcake recipe in my 1970's blue cover McCall's Cookbook, but I found fruitcake recipes in one of my old McCall's recipe booklets titled McCall's Book of Merry Eating, 1972. Here are a few ingredients from each recipe - maybe one will ring a bell:

Christmas Fruitcake
Using candied fruit, almonds, walnuts, allspice, cinnamon and brandy. The baked fruitcake is wrapped in a brandy-soaked cheesecloth and aged for 6-8 weeks before using.

McCall's Best Fruitcake
Using dried prunes, dried apricots, raisins, currants, diced citron, candied orange peel, candied lemon peel, dates, candied pineapple, candied cherries, pecans, cherry, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves and brown sugar. The baked fruitcake is wrapped in a sherry-soaked cheesecloth and sprinkled with a little more sherry every 5 days.

Golden Fruitcake
Using dried apricots, raisins, candied pineapple or orange peel, candied cherries, walnuts, lemon peel and orange peel.

Tropical Fruitcake
Using Brazil nuts, dates and Maraschino cherries.

White Fruitcake
Using coconut, raisins, candied cherries, candied pineapple, dates, currants, mixed candied fruit, pecans, walnuts, almonds and orange juice.

If any of these sound like the one you're looking for, let me know and I'll be happy to scan it in and post it for you.

Happy Holiday Baking!
