Tips: Uses for Hoison Sauce

Misc.
Marie,

You can use hoisin sauce for all kinds of stir-fry dishes. For example, you can saute some chicken with broccoli, or maybe beef with peppers. When they are about three-quarters cooked, add the hoisin sauce, then continue cooking till the meat is done. You will end up with something like the dishes served at those "express" Chinese food places.

You can also use hoisin sauce as a dipping sauce for meat, vegetables. It is especially good with those that have lighter flavors, like steamed or grilled stuff that has not been seasoned heavily. You could try using it as a basting sauce for grilling, just like how teriyaki basting sauce is used.

Another idea is to mix some hoisin sauce with with a bit of vegetable oil (sesame oil is ok too) to create a sauce that is good with egg noodles or rice vermicelli. Just add some meat and veggies and you will have your own version of "Lo Mein".

By the way, another very good sauce to have for Oriental dishes is Oyster sauce, which is sometimes labelled as Oyster-flavored sauce. This is the sauce in every Chinese cook's kitchen, and you can use it the same ways you use hoisin sauce. It looks similar to hoisin sauce but tastes quite different, salty rather than sweet.

Hope some of these suggestions work for you, have fun experimenting! :)
