Recipe(tried): Tofu Pouches
Misc. This is a weird recipe that I picked up in a restaurant from some Chinese folk. It is very easy to make and quite good. Some kids get a kick out of it. I have substituted tofu for the turkey with good results. Try coming up with a more appetizing name.
TURKEY POUCHES
from Leslie Tsui
1 lb ground turkey
1 sm onion minced
1 carrot minced
1-2 cloves garlic minced
1 inch fresh ginger grated
1-2t five spice powder
salt
hoisin
rice noodles (1 pkg)
1 head iceberg lettuce separated into leaves
oil
Saut the onion, carrot, turkey, garlic, ginger powder and salt (to taste) in a little oil until turkey is well cooked and brown. Deep-fry the noodles a few seconds.
To serve: take a lettuce leaf and smear a bit of hoisin down the middle. Place a nest of fried noodles (use roll tongs) in the leaf and spoon in some of the meat mixture. Roll into a Chinese lettuce burrito and have at it.
