Recipe: Agnes's Blue Ribbon Maple Pecan Cookies

AGNES'S BLUE RIBBON MAPLE PECAN COOKIES
(County Fair Winner)

3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 3/4 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 to 3/4 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup white granulated sugar

Combine butter, brown sugar, syrup, egg and vanilla in mixing bowl. Beat until creamy.

Sift together flour, soda and nutmeg; gradually beat into creamed mixture. Add pecans and mix until well-blended. Roll dough into small balls and roll in white sugar. Place on cookie sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until light golden brown.

VARIATION:
If desired, frost these with a powdered sugar frosting flavored with maple flavoring.
