Recipe: Baked Onions (1935)

Side Dishes - Vegetables
BAKED ONIONS

18 small onions
6 cups boiling water
1 tablespoon butter, melted
1 tablespoon sugar
3/4 cup catsup
1 cup water

Peel onions and cook, uncovered, in boiling water for 10 minutes. Drain. Put in baking dish.

Pour over onions a mixture of melted butter, sugar, catsup and water.

Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees F) 45 minutes, or until tender. Baste onions with the sauce in dish at 15-minute intervals during the baking.

Serve with meat or fish.
