BASIL-GARLIC RUBBED TOAST
"I like a nice hearty French baguette or Italian bread, but hoagie rolls will do in a pinch!"
1 loaf of French or Italian bread
1 stick (1/2 cup) salted butter or margarine at room temperature
2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh basil*
1 teaspoon finely chopped garlic (or prepared)
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
Slice bread into 6 portions and then cut each portion in half for buttering.
In a medium bowl combine butter, basil, garlic and cheese (if using).
Lightly spread butter mixture on bread, removing any excess butter mixture. Place in a single layer on a baking sheet.
Toast in 375 degree F oven until nicely browned.
*If basil isn't your favorite herb, substitute rosemary, oregano or parsley.
Makes 12 servings
