Beef and Mushroom Stew

l lb. stewing beef cut into cubes
flour
1 clove garlic thinly sliced
1 cup beef broth
1/2 cup red wine
1/2 tsp. dried thyme
1 or two bay leaves
3/4 cup slice mushrooms

Coat beef with flour and fry in hot oil until brown on all sides. Add beef broth, garlic, wine, thyme, and bay leaves. Simmer for about one hour and thirty minutes until beef is tender. Add mushrooms and cook for an additional 20 minutes. Can be thickened using a combination of 1 tbsp. flour and 3 tbsp. water.
