Best Cake-Type Brownies

Here's my favorite recipe for cake-type brownies (as opposed to fudge-type brownies).
1/2 cup butter or shortening
2 (1 oz.) squares unsweetened chocolate
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3/4 cup sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
Melt butter and chocolate together over VERY LOW heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and cool. Beat the eggs until very light and thickened. Stir in the sugar, then the chocolate mixture, and vanilla. Sift the dry ingredients together and add, stirring well. I always mix these by hand, or with my hand mixer.
Bake in a greased and cocoa-powdered 8x8x2-inch pan at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool and frost with cocoa frosting or dust with powdered sugar.
