Recipe: Bon Bon Donut Drops (A bit of nostalgia)

BON BON DONUT DROPS

Makes 4 dozen.

Deep Fry at 375 degrees F.for about 3 minutes.

Sift together:
2 1/4 cups sifted Pillsbury's Best Enriched Flour*
2 1/2 tsp. double-acting baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt

Add:
1/2 cup sugar gradually to:
3 Tbsp. Crisco, creaming well.

Blend in:
2 well beaten eggs

Combine:
2/3 cup milk
1 tsp. French's vanilla
Add alternately with the dry ingredients to creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Blend thoroughly after each addition. (With electric mixer use a low speed.)

Stir in:
1 1/2 squares (1 1/2oz.) semi sweet chocolate, coarsely grated

Drop:
by teaspoonfuls into hot deep fat (375 degrees F.) Fry till well browned on both sides, about 3 minutes. Drain on absorbent paper. Cool and roll in sugar.

*If using self-rising flour(with the notation,"sold in parts of the south"), omit baking powder and salt.
