Recipe(tried): Bonbon Donut Drops - Made my day!!!!! (with variations)

I have made these donuts, probably every year, for the last 40 years. You can imagine what the recipe book looks like already! My daughter called for the recipe, and I was so disappointed to find that the page had fallen out, and was missing! What luck to have found it immediately!

I use chocolate chips in place of the grated chocolate.

They can also be made omitting the chocolate, and using apple cider as the liquid, and flavoring with nutmeg and a little cinnamon. They can be rolled in cinnamon-sugar.
