I have grown pinto beans for years and have always snapped and canned them with no trouble you do use the green pod as well as any that are to big and fall out when snapping them, I have always done mine in a pressure cooker and have never had them be tough.Your grandmother was right, they make the best canned green beans ever,always add a tbsp. salt per qt. l/2 tsp. for pints.
