CHERRY DUMPLINGS
FOR THE SAUCE:
1 1/2 cups canned sour pie cherries
1 1/2 cups boiling water
1/2 cup cherry juice
1/2 cup sugar
2 tbsp. butter
Dash salt
FOR THE DUMPLINGS:
1 cup flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
Dash salt
2 tbsp. butter
1/3 to 1/2 cup milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
TO PREPARE THE SAUCE:
In a large saucepan or Dutch oven mix all sauce ingredients. Boil for 5 minutes.
TO PREPARE THE DUMPLINGS:
Mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in 2 tablespoons butter. Combine milk and vanilla. Add to dry ingredients and stir just until moistened.
Drop dough by spoonfuls onto boiling sauce.
Cook uncovered 5 minutes. Cover pan and cook 15 minutes more.
Serve with warm sauce.
Servings: 4
