Recipe: Chewy Nut Squares (Kroger Walnuts package)

CHEWY NUT SQUARES

1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 1/2 cups firmly-packed brown sugar, divided use
1 cup plus 1 tablespoon flour, divided use
2 eggs
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup walnuts
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Cream butter or margarine and 1/2 cup brown sugar until fluffy. Gradually beat in 1 cup flour. Pat into bottom of 8x8x2-inch pan.

Bake 15 minutes or until golden. Cool slightly.

In bowl, beat eggs slightly. Stir in the remaining 1 cup brown sugar, remaining 1 tablespoon flour, baking powder salt until well blended add nuts and chocolate chips. Pour over crust.

Bake 35 minutes or until brown and set in center. Cool. Cut into squares.

Makes 2 dozen squares
