Recipe: Chili Meat Balls (using tomato soup, 1960's)

CHILI MEAT BALLS

1 lb. ground beef
1/3 cup fine dry bread crumbs
2 tbsp. minced onion
1 tsp. salt
1 slightly beaten egg
1 (10 3/4 oz.) can condensed cream of tomato soup, divided use
2 tbsp. shortening
1 tsp. chili powder
1/4 cup water

Combine beef, bread crumbs, onion, salt, egg and (undiluted) soup. Shape into 1-inch balls and brown in shortening in oven-proof skillet.

Mix remaining (undiluted) soup, chili powder and 1/4 cup water; pour over meat.

Cover pan and bake in 350 degree F oven for about 30 minutes.

Makes 4-5 servings
