I am a Texas transplant who grew up on this sauce. Please tell me if you find Woody's Cook-In Sauce in a Safeway, Albertson's or King Soopers in Colorado.
I love this sauce right from the jar, but if you have family or friends who like a sweeter sauce, here is a recipe for you.
Empty 1 jar of Woody's Cook-In BBQ Sauce into a small mixing bowl. Refill the empty Woody's jar with any brand of ketsup and empty that into the mixing bowl. Add 1 cup of light brown sugar to the bowl and mix well. You can refill the Woody's jar with part of the mixture for your next BBQ meal and use the remainder on your current one.
Here are the many ways I use this sauce. There is no better tangy chicken than one cooked in Woody's Cook-In BBQ Sauce right from the jar. In the cold of winter, I cook a small beef brisket in my large slow cooker, seasoned only with a full jar of Woody's Cook-In BBQ Sauce and add water measuring 3/4 of the empty jar. In the summer I use it straight from the jar or sweet-style, using the above recipe, on my smoker or charcoal grill to cook or smoke beef, pork and chicken. I also use it to liven-up baked beans, Ranch Style Beans and pinto beans, by adding tablespoons of the sauce until I get the desired taste. The sweet version (above recipe) is even great on BBQ salmon on the charcoal grill.
