DORIS LASKA'S MAPLE FLAVORED GINGERBREAD
(County Fair Winner)
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup maple-flavored syrup
1 cup hot water
Sift together dry ingredients set aside.
Beat shortening and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add egg and beat well. Beat in molasses and syrup.
Beat in dry ingredients alternately with hot water. Pour into greased 9-by-13-inch baking pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. Cool in pan on cooling rack.
