Recipe(tried): Easy Refried Beans

Side Dishes - Beans
EASY REFRIED BEANS

2 tbsp. bacon grease, lard, or canola oil (or a combination - i.e. 1 tbsp. bacon grease, and 1 tbsp. canola oil)
2 cans (15 oz. each) pinto beans or black beans
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. onion powder
1/2 tsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 cup Mexican blend cheese
Salt and pepper to taste
Cheese to garnish, optional
Cilantro to garnish, optional

Heat bacon grease, lard, or canola oil, or a combination on low heat.

Using a slotted spoon, scoop the beans into the pan, reserving the liquid. Add garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and ground cumin. Mash all contents, adding reserved liquid until desired consistency is reached. (I've found that a potato masher works great.) Add salt and pepper to taste.

Stir in the cheese, and serve, or keep warm in low oven until ready to serve.
