Recipe(tried): EDENTON EGGNOG RECIPE

Hi Scarlett. I have a wonderful recipe for eggnog that we have served over the years. It is a family tradition. I found it in Southern Living Recipes 1984. Hope you enjoy. This recipe seems like it has a lot of alcohol in it, but truly it doesn't make you feel tipsy. This is really a great eggnog recipe, a little trouble to go to, but well worth it. We have also halfed the recipe when not having as many friends over. My husband, Bill, takes great pride in making this every year and serving it in his mothers antique punch bowl. Judy

EDENTON EGGNOG

12 eggs, separated
1 (16 oz) package powdered sugar, sifted
1 1/2 to 2 cups dark rum, divided
1 1/2 to 2 cups bourbon, divided
1 quart milk
1 1/2 quarts whipping cream
Freshly grated nutmeg

Beat egg yolks until foamy. Gradually add sugar, beating until thick and lemon colored. Stir in 1 cup of rum and 1 cup of bourbon, mixing well. Chill 1 hour.

Stir in the remaining rum and bourbon. Add milk and whipping cream, stirring well.

Beat egg whites (at room temperature) until soft peaks form. Gently fold into yolk mixture. Chill thoroughly. Sprinkle eggnog with nutmeg. Yield:about 6 quarts.
