Recipe: Ginger Chip Cookies (maybe?)

GINGER CHIP COOKIES

1 cup sugar
3/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
2 cups flour (plus additional, as needed)
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
3/4 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup chocolate chips
sugar (for rolling)

Cream together first 4 ingredients. Beat until fluffy. Add dry ingredients and blend.

Add the chocolate chips. (Add 1/4 cup flour if too sticky.)

Drop by teaspoonfuls into plate of sugar. Roll in sugar and place on greased cookie sheet.

Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 350 degrees F until tops are crackling.
