Recipe: Happy New Year! Rosh HaShannah Menus

Holidays, Celebrations
Tonight begins the two day observance of Rosh HaShannah, which heralds the Jewish New Year with the ten Days of Awe, culminating on Yom Kippur October 6.

Some Jews do not observe two days of Rosh HaShannah, but my family's minhag (tradition) does. To celebrate, I have two festive meals planned.

Erev Rosh HaShannah:

Apples and honey
Wine for kiddish
(2) small round challahs
Tossed salad with mango, craisins, and sweet dressing
Gefilte fish
Chicken soup with matzah balls
Java brisket
Tsimmes
Broccoli/noodle kugel
Honey sponge cake

One of these days I'll attempt a Tayglach, but not this year.

Second night will be the same, except the entree will be Crockpot Roast Sticky Chicken with crockpot Leek and Wild Mushroom Stuffing. Good thing I have multiple crockpots.
