Recipe(tried): Homemade Italian Breadcrumbs

A couple of years ago when we had the pleasure of living up in the Panhandle, I made friends with a wonderful cook named Stevie. She was so much fun and I learned many things from her including never to throw away loaf bread. She taught me how to make fresh breadcrumbs. These breadcrumbs are much better tasting than the one sold at the grocer. I enjoy making it also because it's fun and you use the processor.

Since we do not eat bread in our home on a regular basis, I buy a loaf of Italian bread and let it get stale for about 3 days and then proceed with the recipe.

Here is the recipe for your enjoyment.

Homemade Italian Breadcrumbs

1 loaf od stale Italian bread
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
1 tbsp. Italian seasonings
1 tsp. garlic salt
1 tsp. black pepper
1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
1 tbsp. dried parsley flakes
1 tsp. dried basil
1 tsp. dried oregano

Process the bread in chunks til fine. Put the crumbs in a large bowl and add the other ingredients in, folding gently to incorporate. Divide between two quart zip-lock freezer bags. Store in freezer and use as needed.
