Recipe: Ideal cookie bar information

Desserts - Cookies, Brownies, Bars
First of all there is no clone recipe and they have discontinued making them. I found one discussion on another board that mentioned the following recipe that said it was a substitute NOT a clone of the cookie.

"I agree with everyone. I want those cookies back! But I can help you all out with a substitute if you don't mind a little work in the kitchen. Actually its very simple. Spread peanut butter between two Ritz crackers. I usually make up a whole batch using the entire box of Ritz. Maybe even two boxes! Then using tongs dip them in melted almond bark chocolate. You can get the almond bark chocolate in the bakery section of any grocery store. I melt mine in the microwave. Let the excess chocolate drip off and place on wax paper. Let them sit for a while until the chocolate hardens. Then enjoy! The taste is very similar to the good ol Nabisco Ideal Peanut Butter Bars. And like the peanut butter bars, you can't stop eating them until your stuffed or until they are all gone. Source: missum+in+Ala+too

Another recipe says to dip in them in Nestles Treasures with toffee."

Contacted a former co-worker that actually mixed the ingredients for Ideal Bars 20 years ago.... he remembered precisly how they were made. Below you will find what he wrote to me. Source: That Rich

IDEAL PEANUT BARS

Just got back from Memphis a couple hours ago. Your email seemed the most urgent. In fact Elvis asked me the same thing.

The filler was pretty basic:
Peanut butter
Powder sugar
Milk powder
Meal

The dough was:
Flour
Sugar
Corn syrup
Malt liquid
Water
Oil
Sifted coconut

The coating was pure milk chocolate.

The interior of the cookie.... the peanut butter was mixed with a lot of confectionary sugar.. I mean A LOT.

The outside cookie was similar to a very dry and crumbly butter cookie type dough but I think the secret was there was a lot of shredded coconut in this mixture. I think the coconut is what gave the Ideal paeanut bar it's "special" taste.

To finish it off the entire cookie was enrobed in Ambrosia milk chocolate from Wisconsin.... what a great cookie it was.

Some said the Nabisco Nutter Butter Cookies were similar tasting.
