Recipe: Mary Carter's Ten Layer Cake
Misc.Mary Carter's Ten Layer Cake
6 eggs
1 cup milk
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 cups Self Rising flour
1 cup shortening
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Combine eggs, sugar, flour, shortening, milk and vanilla in
large mixer bowl. Beat well. Pour 5 tablespoons batter into each of *10 greased and floured 9 inch round cake pans. Bake at 400 for 4 to 5 min. or until light brown. Remove to wire
racks to cool. Spread frosting between layers and over
top of cake.
* Since I only have 2- 9 inch pans, I would bake 2 at a time.
Then when I removed layer to cool, I would just wipe out
pan with a paper towel. Spray with Bakers Joy to
save yourself a lot of time and trouble with greasing
and flouring pans.
Frosting
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate- I used Hershey's cocoa
5 cups granulated sugar
1 12oz. can evaporated milk
3/4 marg. softened
1/2 cold water
Conbine choc., water, sugar, evap. milk and marg. in sauce pan: Mix well. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat and boil for 10 min. Stirring constantly.
