Recipe: Munch Mix and Cinnamon Munch

3 cups round oat cereal
3 cups square rice cereal
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter or margarine
2 Tbsp. light corn syrup
1/4 tsp. baking soda
2 pkg. (1.69 oz.) candy-coated
chocolate pieces
Combine cereals in 2-quart microwave-safe dish. Set
aside. Combine sugar, butter and corn syrup in 1-quart glass bowl. Microwave (High), uncovered, 2 to 2 1/2 minutes or until mixture boils, stirring once. Then, microwave (Low, 30%) for 3 minutes. Stir in soda. Pour syrup evenly over cereal. Toss to coat lightly.
Microwave (Medium, 50%) 4 to 5 minutes or until room
temperature on waxed paper-lined tray. Add chocolate pieces.
Store in tightly covered container.
CINNAMON MUNCH
1/3 cup sugar
1 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
4 Tbsp. butter or margarine
4 cups Corn or Rice Chex cereal
or 3 cups bran or Wheat Chex
cereal
Combine sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
In large skillet, melt butter over low heat. Add cereal. Heat and stir gently until all pieces are coated. Continue to heat and stir 5 to 6 minutes. Sprinkle half the sugar/cinnamon mixture over the cereal. Stir to bring unsugared pieces to the top. Sprinkle with remaining cinnamon/sugar mix. Heat and stir one minute longer. Spread on absorbent paper to cool.
