Recipe: Never Fail Chocolate Frosting (cooked, 1960's)

NEVER FAIL CHOCOLATE FROSTING

1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup water
2 tbsp. butter
1 (1 oz.) square unsweetened chocolate
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup powdered sugar (plus more, as needed)

Mix brown sugar, 1/4 cup water, butter, chocolate and salt in a saucepan; bring to a boil. Cook 3 minutes, stirring to prevent sticking. Remove from heat and cool slightly.

Stir in vanilla. Add powdered sugar, starting with 1/2 cup and adding more as needed for spreading consistency.
