Recipe: Peanut Butter Chews with Variations (6) (using corn syrup and corn flakes)

PEANUT BUTTER CHEWS

1/2 cup white corn syrup
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 (6 oz.) jar chunky peanut butter
3 cups Corn Flakes

Blend corn syrup and sugar together in saucepan. Bring to low boil and boil until sugar is dissolved. Stir in peanut butter and remove from heat. Stir in Corn Flakes. Drop by spoonfuls onto waxed paper. Cool and serve.


PEANUT CEREAL DROPS

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup white syrup
Dash of salt
1 cup peanut butter
3 cups corn flakes

Mix sugar on syrup in heavy pan. Bring to a boil, take off stove, add peanut butter. Beat until smooth. Add corn flakes or other cereal. Mix and drop by teaspoons on wax paper, let cool.


PEANUT BUTTER CORN FLAKE CANDY

1 cup sugar
1 cup corn syrup
1 1/2 cups peanut butter
5 cups corn flakes

Bring sugar and corn syrup to a boil. Remove from heat immediately and stir in peanut butter. Stir until peanut butter has melted. Add corn flakes and stir. Mixture will be stiff. Drop on waxed paper to cool.


CRUNCHY CHEWS (with nuts)

3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup Karo dark corn syrup
3/4 cup peanut butter
4 1/2 cups Corn Flakes, crisp rice cereal or round oat cereal
3/4 cup peanuts or broken mixed nuts

Grease a 13x9x2-inch baking pan.

In saucepan mix together sugar and corn syrup. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly over medium heat. Boil 1 minute. Mix in peanut butter. Stir in Corn Flakes and nuts. Turn into prepared pan. Press together firmly. Cool. Cut into squares.

Makes 4 1/2 dozen (1 1/2 inch) squares


PEANUT BUTTER BALLS
Makes about 30

4 cups corn flakes, crushed
1/2 cup Karo light corn syrup
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup crunchy peanut butter

Soften last 3 items in double boiler just until mixed, do not boil. Pour over corn flakes and mix. Make into small balls by hand.


CORN FLAKE TREATS (with cocoa)

1 cup sugar
1 cup corn syrup
3 tbsp. cocoa
1 cup peanut butter
1 tbsp. butter
9 to 10 oz. corn flakes, crushed

Butter sides and bottom of 13x9-inch pan.

Mix sugar, corn syrup and cocoa in saucepan. Bring to a boil; remove from heat. Add peanut butter and butter. Mix well and pour over corn flakes. Stir to coat all the flakes. Press into prepared pan. Let cool and cut into squares.
