Polish Sweet Bread
From: Verla,.Il
4 cups bread flour (Makes 2 loaves!)
3 small eggs or 2 large eggs
4 Tbsp. butter
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup sugar
3 tsp dry yeast
1 tsp vanilla
Topping
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cp flour
1/4 cup butter
Heat milk until warm and add butter. Add beaten eggs, sugar, and vanilla. Put in bread machine pan.
Add flour yeast and salt.
Program machine for dough cycle. ( I use the 45 minute cycle). When dough is finished punch down and leave in the bread machine pan and cover with a towel. Let rise until double.
Divide dough into 2 pieces and place into 2 greased or Pam sprayed bread pans. Cover and let raise for 1 hour.
Combine topping ingredients and set aside. Beat 1 egg and 1 Tbsp. of water together.
Brush loaves of risen bread with the egg wash and then add crumb topping.
Bake at 350 degrees for 28 minutes. Bread will look a golden brown.
This recipe was given to me by a good friend in South Carolina that I met on the internet and had the pleasure if eating this bread at her beach home this spring.
It makes wonderful toast.
