Yes, the boiling water thing works. I also discovered a product that I bought at Cost Plus World Market. It comes in a tiny, little 1 oz. spray bottle. The product is called "Wine Out" and is made by Gonzo. It looks like they have a website (www.GONZOCORP.com). Well, my husband got blackberry jam on my newly-upholstered dinette chair (ultrasuede). I just spritzed on the Wine Out, waited a couple of minutes and wiped with a towel moistened with lukewarm water. It was absolutely perfect! This is a great product.
