Recipe(tried): Rustic Bread Pizza (with Bratwurst?), Dead Salad and...Thank Heavens! CHOCOLATE!!!
Menus This is not your normal, What's For Dinner? post, but then, when are my posts ever normal?
Last evening, with the BEST of intentions, I put(what I thought was) the last turkey Italian sausage out to defrost for Rustic Bread Pizzas for the two of us.Friends called saying they were coming over, was it convienent? We extended an invite to dine with us. After all, we had Rustic Bread Pizza with Italian sausage, onions, mushrooms and a variety of sweet peppers, a fresh bag of salad from the grocery trip on Sunday & a variety of olives to share! The more the merrier!! Imagine my suprise when I found that a turkey Bratwurst was masquerading as an Italian sausage! The orange sweet pepper was spoiled, leaving me with a small yellow one. And the salad? Well, it was a bit outdated! Not sure where the one from Sunday disappeared to, if even it ever got in the cart. Then I remembered, no one but me in the foursome liked olives! So...I sauted up the Bratwurst and crumbled it, sauted the lone pepper with onions, mushrooms and garlic, split the loaf of bread into quarters, spread them with leftover spaghetti sauce, topped with the Bratwurst crumbles, the pepper/onion mixture, shredded mozzarella, salt and pepper and oregoano. I shoved them in the oven at 450, put the four dishes of olives on the table (mostly as decoration!) and picked thru the salad. I did alert the diners as to the questionable date on the bag, but my husband and his counterpart polished it off just like it was fresh picked! What for dessert....what for dessert??? Ah-ha! The end of a tin of purchased butter cookies and two small dishes of dark chocolate chunks. One with almonds and one with pecans and raisins. Chocolate can save anything!!!
