Sour Cream Cookies
Source: rec.food.recipes/Lee Newland
I found these in a local church cookbook a while ago and tried them - we all liked them a lot, especially with raisins. The lady (Patricia Larson) who submitted the recipe wrote, "This recipe came from my Grandmother and is a family favorite for a soft cookie. It improves with storing." They definitely are better after about 24 hours.
Makes about 5 dozen cookies
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup shortening
3 eggs
4 cups (scant) flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2-1 cup broken nuts
Optional ingredients (1/2-1 cup each, depending on how many of them you choose to use):
raisins
chopped dates
dried currants
Cream sugars and shortening until fluffy; add eggs and beat. Stir the flour, baking powder, soda, cinnamon, and cloves together. To the creamed mixture, stir in the sour cream and vanilla alternately with the dry ingredients. Stir in the nuts (and any of the optional ingredients you are using). Drop by generous teaspoons onto lightly greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10-12 minutes.
