Recipe(tried): Split Pea Soup

Soups

SPLIT PEA SOUP

Makes 12 cups.

500 g (1 lbs) dried split peas
130 g (1/4 lbs) lean back bacon, or left-over pork, diced
9 cups cold water
4 medium carrots, diced
2 medium onions, diced
1 stalk celery or bok choy, diced
1/4 cup sunflower or olive oil
2 tablespoons dried parsely
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

** Procedure **

In the evening, before going to bed,
put the split peas and water into
a large slow cooker or crock pot
(about 4 litres or quarts in size). Then
cook on low overnight.

In the morning add all of the other
ingredients. Continue to cook
on low for the rest of the day.

Serve at the evening dinner, with whole grain bread and salad. A cold
beer would also taste good!
