Recipe(tried): Sweet and Sour Slaw

Pam, Your description of the cooked dressing sounds like one I love for cole slaw, especially in the summer because it is free of mayo! I have only made it for the coleslaw, but I'm sure it would be good on other veggies as well. Hope this is what you were looking for. Enjoy.

SWEET AND SOUR SLAW

3 pounds cabbage, grated
1 medium onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup oil
3/4 cup vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon celery seed
1 teaspoon dry mustard

Combine cabbage, onion, and green pepper; pour sugar over vegetables.

In a saucepan, combine oil, vinegar, salt celery seed & mustard; heat to boiling. Pour over slaw and stir. Refrigerate overnight.

(This recipe makes enough slaw to last a family a week.)

NOTE: I have added the sugar to the mixture in saucepan, heated until disolved, cooled it and then added it to the coleslaw veggie mix. I have also perked the recipe up for a family reunion, by adding, drained pineapple chunks, mandarin oranges and sliced maraschino cherries.
