Recipe: Walnut Clusters by first lady Pat Nixon (cookies, 1950's)

WALNUT CLUSTERS

1/2 cup sifted flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup soft butter
2 cups nutmeats
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 1/2 squares melted baking chocolate

Sift the first three ingredients.

Mix butter and sugar until creamy. Add egg and vanilla, mix well. Mix in chocolate, then flour mixture. Fold in nuts. Drop by teaspoonfulls, one inch apart, on greased cookie sheet.

Bake 10 minutes in 350 degree F oven.

Yield 2 dozen.
