ISO: Apple butter or apple sauce

Misc.
I'm wondering about apple butter too. I've got an Indian recipe that calls for banana puree and apple butter. I'd like to make some apple butter but everything I've seen so far sounds like apple sauce.

What's the difference?

Also, it seems you've got to make a gallon of the stuff with the recipes I've come across. I'm looking for a small batch.

If anyone has an idea, let me know.
