Hi Christine - I just read the posting and have to admit I've NEVER made apple butter - always buy the jarred! Don't tell!
I like to use it ..and use it in a lot of things -marinades; meat loaves, sauces, etc. etc. some brands have a lot of spice and you hardly have to season at all! WE often add prep'd horseradish and mustard and get sort of a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern flavor .... and so on.
To me, apple sauce is rather bland. But I know lots of people who love it. I would think you could use it similarly .... but also remember re the seasoning bit.
try some - I think you'll like it!
