ISO: Canning Mushrooms

I have a question about canning mushrooms. My Canning book says to freeze them and not can them but I have heard of some who have canned them. I buy them bulk and prefer canning as opposed to freezing so they don't go bad. Is there a safe way to can plain sliced mushrooms? If so, what is the recipe?
