ISO: Dessert - looks like strawberries

As a child my grandmother made a dessert during the holidays that looked like a strawberry but was not. All I can remember is that she made up some type of dough, but this is not baked. She would shape this dough to look somewhat like a strawberry. Then coat it with red sugar crystals, all but the top. The top was coated with green sugar crystals. she would take almon slivers and dye them in green food dye them place them on top of the strawberries to look like a real strawberry. I remember they tasted like strawberries/maybe somewhat tart but were so good. Any help in rediscovering this would be most appreciated.
